History
White Rock operates at Scart, Ballyclough, Mallow, Co. Cork. The name Ballyclough in its Irish form,“Baile Cloch”, means 'town of the stones'. Unsurprisingly it has its origins in the past abundance of stone quarries in the area. It is this rich vein of limestone deposits that provides White Rock with the opportunity and resources to extractive, process and supply high quality aggregates to the local and regional markets.
The site on which White Rock operates has been the location of quarrying activities for many hundreds of years. These activities include both general quarrying and lime production.
In fact, the site operated an historic lime kiln (similar to the one showing in figure 1-1), for domestic and agricultural purposes, right up until the late 1980’s/early 1990’s.
Current Operations
The first stage of aggregate processing involves the preparation of a permitted area of our bed rock for drilling and subsequent blasting. Specialist operators are used to carry out both of these technical tasks. Once the rock is blasted it is then. At the processing site, the quarry blast material is fed through a crusher. This primary crusher, will reduce the size of the quarried rubble down to chunks about 8 to 6 inches in circumference. The product from the primary crusher is then screened for larger usable products which are segregated from the general mix.

Today, the site operates with the benefit of an extensive planning permission and produces a wide range of aggregates and materials. The process of extracting and process rock is carefully managed and supervised in accordance with strict Standard Operational Procedures or SOPs, for short.
This remaining material is the fed into a secondary crushing and/or screening which further reduces and separates the aggregate into more usable products. Finally, a screener — with single, double, and triple deck configurations is fed with crushed material from the crusher which allows for the quick identification and separation of variously sized aggregate for use in various applications.
Stockpiles of each graded product or material are stored in stock piles ready for market distribution. These stockpiles are carefully managed and monitored on a daily basis to ensure there is no risk of running out of any particular product before there is sufficient time to replenish the stock.
